Thought for the day
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
- Matthew 7:7-8
Adv. Fernandas Rathina Raja, the General Secretary of the Church of South India (CSI), demanded stringent action against the police personnel involved in the alleged custodial murder of Mr. Jayaraj and Mr Fenix at Sathankulam, Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu. In an open letter to The Chief Minister of the State and The Vice- Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities, Adv. Fernandas emphatically pointed out that the police personnel who used the excessive force did not follow the guidelines in the law and procedures issued by the Hon’ble High Courts and Hon’ble Supreme Court. The letter draws the attention to the fact that the Duty Doctor who gave the fitness certificate has deliberately ignored and violated the rules in issuing the certificate. It further appears that the Hon’ble Magistrate who remanded them has not exercised his judicial conscience.
The General Secretary categorically stated in the letter that the Church of South India along with the general public at large, expect the personal intervention of the Chief Minister and the Minority Commission Chairperson will initiate firm action against all the culprits in accordance with the law and take stringent measures so that such brutal incidents does not take place in future.
The victims, Mr. Jayaraj and Mr Fenix, were the members of the Thoothukudi- Nazareth Diocese of the Church of South India.
