Thought for the day
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
- Matthew 7:7-8
Chennai: Church of South India Synod Mission and Evangelism Department has engaged in the revamping and rejuvenating missionary retreat and fasting prayer organized by the board for Mission and Evangelism, Vellore Diocese on 12th April 2019 at CSI Retreat Centre, Yelagiri Hills. Meeting was commenced with a devotion led by Rev. K. James Cecil Victor, Director for the Pastoral Aid Department. “We need renewal and transformation in our life”, said Rev. James Cecil Victor during the devotion. Moreover, we have to follow Jesus Christ so that we may able to be with the people through our credible life activities, he added.
The Retreat was presided over by Rev. Dr. H. Sharma Nithyanandam, Chair Person, Board for Mission and Evangelism Vellore Diocese. “Self -analysis and self- discovery is needed to move ahead for the missional engagements” told Rev. Sharma Nithyanandam during his presidential address. Rev. Dr. D.S.C. Menon extended welcome to the delegates.
“We must be mindful about our walking, sitting, talking and engaging” said Rev. Maxcin John during the key-Note address based on Psalms 1: 1-3. Credibility and integrity of the life are the best medium to propagate gospel to others, he added. Rev. Fr. Thangaraj, Director, Tamil Nadu Regional Catholic Church led a session based on “need of fasting”. He reminded that fasting is inevitable to restore and rejuvenate ourselves. It will help us to re-examine and re-organize ourselves. Rev. Fr. Ramesh, Kaniyampady Catholic Parish led a session based on “Lenten Meditation from Scriptural Perspectives”. He pointed out that Lenten meditation is always helping us to commemorate the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and it will enable us to partake in the mission of God.
Songster Rev. M. Arul Doss, Presbyter, Kaveripakam led a session based on “ministry and its relevance in today’s context”. He reminded that Jesus Christ is the role model for the ministry. We should engage in our mission and ministry in humility, service and uttermost love like Jesus Christ exemplified through his missional engagements. Many, especially Grassroot level people are still waiting to be embraced and accompanied in their struggles and crisis. So, it is the need of the hour to be with the margins, he added.
More noticeably, one day retreat and fasting prayer was an opportunity to come together, maintain fellowship each other, listen and learn from each other. Vellore Diocesan Mission Board also conducted along with retreat. Vellore Diocesan Mission Board Members and Missionaries and Rev. Vinoth Kumar, Presbyter Yelagiri Hills have attended the meeting. It was well organized by the leadership of Rev. Dr. D.S. C. Menon, Mission Board Director, Vellore Diocese and Rev. H.
