Henry Baker College, Melukavumattom, is the one and only higher education institution of the East Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India (CSI), which was named after Rev. Henry Baker Jr., the legendary CMS missionary who was later revered as the Apostle of the Hills. Rev. Henry Baker Jr. was instrumental in introducing formal education and Gospel to these hill stations Kerala. As a tribute to Rev. Henry Baker, a memorial lecture was organised back in 1993. Since then, many esteemed persons from different spheres of life were invited to deliver the lecture each year. In this year the lecture was given by Dr P. K Michael Tharakan, Chairman Kerala Council for Historical Research, on the 3rd February at the Seminar Hall of the College. The Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. V. S Francis presided over the meeting. Rev. Biju Joseph (College Bursar), and Rev. P. C Mathewkutty (treasurer) gave felicitations. Dr Gireesh Kumar G.S, the Principal of the College led the organisational team.
