‘Mangalya’ is a marriage aid project of the Women's Fellowship of South Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India (CSI). During the time span of 2016 - 2020, there were 63 families tied the knot with the help of this project. This year, on the Indian Republic Day, 18 more couples joined in wedlock under this scheme. The whole expenditure of the ceremony, including the expense of the ornaments, wedding dress, feast and fixed deposit for the newly wedded were borne by the Women's Fellowship.
Ms Sherly Dharmaraj Rasalam, the President of the Women’s fellowship of the South Kerala Diocese of the CSI, who is the brain behind this project, led the organising of the function today. The wedding ceremony was led by Most Rev. Dharmaraj Rasalam; the Moderator of the CSI, assisted by Rt. Rev. Dr Reuben Mark; the Deputy Moderator of the CSI, Rt. Rev. Timothy Ravinder; Bishop in Coimbatore, Rt. Rev. Oommen George; Bishop in CSI Kollam- Kottarakkara, and Rt. Rev. Dr Sabu K. Cherian; Bishop in Madhya Kerala. Adv. C. Fernandas Rathina Raja; the General Secretary of the CSI Synod and Prof. Dr Vimal Sukumar; the Hon. Treasurer of the CSI Synod spoke in the public meeting after the wedding ceremony representing the Synod.
Mr Kadakampally Surendran, the State Minister for Co-Operation and Tourism, and Mr K. S. Sabarinadhan MLA also gave felicitation speeches in the meeting.
Mangalya, a five-year-old projects lighted up the lives of many poor women, thus continues to serve many more in the years to come.
